The Reason Behind Caterwauling

If you are a cat owner, then you are probably familiar with the everyday meows and other sounds that your cat makes. However, when its pitch becomes “yowly”, melodic, drawn-out, and higher, it is time that you need to pay attention. Caterwauling is what it’s called. There is a reason why cats do it. Here are some of them:

  • Cats are in pain

Did you know? Cats hide their pain. That is why if your cat begins caterwauling, and you can’t find a reason why, begin by visiting your vet to find out anything related to its health. Aside from some medical issues that can cause caterwauling, cats usually develop kidney disease and overactive thyroid, which could cause caterwauling.

  • The Need to Breed

If your cat isn’t neutered or spayed, they could create a lot of sounds. Female cats that are in heat does caterwauling to attract a male. Also, male cats who are not neutered does caterwauling when they see a female that is in heat. The greatest solution to this issue is to neuter or spay your cat. It could also help control the population of the cats.

  • Outside Activity

Almost all cat owners heard their cats caterwaul and rushed to see what is going on, only to see their cat watching outside the window with a severe look. Typically, this is because another cat has planted his or her scent of the turf of your cat. Well, we all know that cats are territorial. Simply close the windows to stop your cat from doing caterwauling noises.
