Signs To Consider Before Calling Your Veterinarian If Your Cat Has Diarrhea
Diarrhea is one of the ailments that your cat might experience. It is the fast movement of the ingested material through the intestine, which results in one or more of the following: loose stools, increased frequency of bowel movements, or increased amount of stool.
Once you cat has diarrhea, call your veterinarian. Your vet will ask you a lot of questions for them to know how severe the diarrhea is. It is much beneficial for your vet to know the source of diarrhea or when started. He/she might ask you how many bowel movements your cat had, if your cat is uncomfortable, or what do their stool looks like. It’s especially essential that you immediately call your vet when your cat experiences the following signs:
- You think that your cat has previously eaten something poisonous or toxic.
- The gums of your cat are yellow or pale.
- There is blood in the diarrhea or the stools are tarry or black.
- You cat is depressed, has a fever, or dehydrated.
- Your cat looks like he/she is in pain
- Your cat is frequently vomiting.
Do not provide any medications to your cat such as the over-the-counter human medications except if you are advised by your vet to do so.
There are a lot of causes of diarrhea. It’s essential to know the cause for you to provide your cat the right treatment. Your veterinarian will combine the information gathered from the physical exam, from you, and probably laboratory and some diagnostic tests to know the root cause of your cat’s diarrhea.
