How To Choose The Best Cat Food

Like humans, cats also have specific nutritional needs. So, you must be careful about their diet. You might wonder what the best cat food is. The following is a starter to help you know how to choose one for your cats.

1.)Age-Appropriate Diets.

Cats progress through 3 life stages; Kitten, Adult, Seniors. One of the biggest factors in determining the best diet plan for your cat is her life stage. Your cat’s food must be made to meet the nutritional requirements for one’s particular age.

  • Kitten requires a diet that’s high in fat and protein to develop strong teeth, bones, and muscles. Kittens convert calories immediately into energy and are more active compared to older cats.
  • Adult cats must have a lower-calorie diet considering its weight control. Being overweight can lead to diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis as they age. It’ll not need the higher fat/protein diet and calorie content consumed by a kitten unless an adult cat is nursing or pregnant.
  • Senior cats are usually sedentary, which requires a low-fat diet with proteins that are highly digestible to ease the processing burden on their kidneys.

2.) Check the label.

The key for a cat’s best defense for a longer life that’s free of disease is a healthy diet. Check the labels on your food choices. These following ingredients must be listed at the top:

  • Taurine
  • Protein
  • Water
  • Vitamins, enzymes, minerals, fatty acids
